Wineries and Vineyards of the Nelson Region
Nelson has seen a surge in vine plantings in latter years. Once apple orchard growing regions, these have been supplanted with the more profitable industry of viticulture. The majority of the vineyards are on the flat Waimea Plains but others have been planted in the Upper Moutere hills. Nelson is closer to the sea and less windy than most parts of the country and has a more temperate climate than other regions in the South Island.
Climate : Warm summers with high sunshine hours and significant autumn rainfall.
